What’s better? Cold and dry or warm and wet? I think I’d prefer if it didn’t rain!

A shift in the long range prediction for January 2010, with a change in the patterns governing the weather not just for January, but for Winter 2010/11 as a whole. January would seem to indicate a month where rainfall will be on or around the average for the bulk of the UK, with a minority of parts seeing above average, and a further split within that minority seeing below average, but over all when the statistics are in for January, it will reflect a nationwide precipitation that is ‘on the average’. There now appears though to be movement to a possibly warmer January than previously thought, which might be directly attributable to certain phenomenon like El Nino, but at this juncture, that is simply conjecture. If this were the case, then January would yield a month where snowfall would probably be at a minimum, and confined to the far north and east, with the rest of the UK seeing a rain/sleet mixture for most of the time, probably rain rather than sleet, and frosts too would be at a minimum. So, for January 8th, temperatures possibly in high single figures, with the threat of some rain, but the likelihood of a mix of both showers and sunny spells. I would surmise that the day wouldn’t feel as chilly as originally thought, more like the feeling of an early morning day in March or April. So in conclusion, a change, not necessarily for the better, but a definite departure for a classic British winter scenario.
